Safari was good
Maggie G, 30-11-2022
Loved the safari bus which came as part of general admission. Loved that there’s five hippos, there’s none in nz! Other than that, it was fairly disappointing. Possibly the weather had something to do with it, as one part was closed but really wished they had some more open areas, or even better signage on where to go to see things. Map was just a general idea, not which path to follow
Lovely experience visiting the zoo

I loved Weribee open range zoo’s safari as it got you up close with the animals. I visited in October and the day was so warm you could wear shorts or a dress. I enjoyed seeing the African and Australian animals. I even had a curry with a glass of sparkling wine. The native plants were amazing to behold. The emus were walking around freely even.
Great Day Out

We visited the zoo with our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren (7 and 3 and a half). We had a lovely trip on the train from Melbourne CBD then a bus ride direct to the zoo. After getting a coffee from one of the many eateries we boarded the safari bus for a tour. The driver, Maurice, was great. Very knowledgeable and easy to understand. The vehicle was quite comfortable, and we had great vision of all the animals. After the tour, we took ourselves for a walk around the zoo and had a great lunch which was reasonably priced. The zoo staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The grandkids loved the whole day.
Didn’t receive tickets

Had a bad experience using Viator, don’t buy tickets unless it’s a couple of days out, mine never got emailed to me. Apparently they can take up to 48 hours. How hard can it be, they’d taken my money given me a confirmation number but couldn’t send the tickets. Had to buy more tickets at the gate to get in.
Family fun for all

Excellent family fun, recommend visiting during quieter times to ensure less waiting at the safari bus, but the kids all behaved well and waited, the highlight of the trip!! James was our dr, such a fun tour guide, took extra time to answer the kids questions despite having a lot of people to ferry around. We will be back regularly!
Life in the wild

Werribee Zoo is an open range zoo that reproduces a savannah environment, as in Africa and the Australian outback.. It has African and Australian animals. You can see the animals from the bus. The collection of animals is not as large as Melbourne Zoo, but it's an experience that represents life in the wild. By the way, it's essential to book tickets on-line.
Good fun & a must see experience

We had the best of both worlds with a toured guide around the zoo & a 1 hour walk which allowed us to enjoy at our leisure
1hr wait
Liz_M, 22-09-2022
The long 1hr wait in line is unbelievable. The ones that came earlier waited 2hrs. A lot of people ended up leaving. They needed extra lines for people that already paid tickets online instead of making them wait with people that hasn't got tickets. Unorganised venue. Overcrowded and we gave up and left after the safari ride. Safari was 30mns wait on top.Safari was the only enjoyable thing we did there. Cues at all food stops. Won't be going here for a while
It's not quite right
MelbourneTravelmad, 27-12-2022
Having been to Melbourne zoo many times, and Healesville likewise, but not having seen Werribee for many years we thought we would go.
Booking online makes it easy and means no queues.
Luckily the crowd numbers were low, and going early helps too.
If it's animals you want to see as in numbers, the Melbourne zoo is the place to go. There aren't the numbers of animals at Werribee.
The tour on the bus is good, and again because of low numbers you could swap sides on the bus as the animals are always on the other side, lol.
We found the signs in the zoo poor I know why they have been done in the style used, but they can be confusing and there is a need for more clearer signage. Likewise the map you can get could also be better.
Weather was good, the staff helpful, amenities ok, but its just lacking something. Melbourne zoo is much better.
